Elementary Arts Teachers

Paul Fowler

Elementary Music - KG to Grade 5

Hello. My name is Paul Fowler and I am the TIS Elementary School music teacher. I have taught music for the last 30 years in the U.S. (my home country) and in Dubai and I can't image doing anything else. I am honored to be here at TIS.

Music is my passion. I am a cellist and I love writing music. I also love learning  about new cultures through song and playing instruments. I enjoy helping young minds experience the art in new ways. These things all seem to be the same important process to me. Music helped to brighten my life in so many ways and I look to instill the same powerful virtues from learning about music in our students. We will examine new ideas and techniques, we will work hard to better our performing skills, we will create new music for the world to hear, we will experience the connections music has with other subjects, and we will have great fun!

Durin Cazac

Drama - KG to Grade 5

Who Am I?

I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. My interest in the arts eventually lead me to the University of Washington, where I earned a BA in Drama and then to Tashkent, where I earned a Master of Acting diploma from the Ilkhom Theater School of Drama. My journey to Tashkent lead me to meet my wonderful wife, Kseniya, whose talented design skills make our Elementary Drama Productions beautiful year after year.

Experience:

While I continue my own career as a performing artist, through acting, voice-over work, directing, singing and playing music, I have always worked closely with kids. I have previous experience with the former Alaska Theater of Youth, Youth Theater Northwest, the Seattle Children's Theater, and performances with local schools here in Tashkent. I have been at TIS since 2007 teaching PYP Drama and supporting our amazing after-school Arts activities program.

Passions:

My wife and I are both very passionate about animals, and spend most of our free time working with the local animal protection society and various veterinary clinics around Tashkent. Growing up in Alaska instilled a love for any and all outdoor activities: skiing, hiking, diving, frisbee with my amazing dog, and baseball to name a few.

Åsa Lind

Visual Art - KG to Grade 5

Who am I?

I am a teacher who has been teaching overseas most of my career but I always come back to the north of Sweden where my husband and I have a cabin by a lake. We have two sons, currently in Grade 3 and 5.

“ The arts are not mere diversions from the important business of education, they are essential resources.”

Elliot W Eisner

Growing up in Sweden, I feel I got a very good all-round education because of the many “practical” subjects we had on the schedule. I strongly believe that learning about and through arts is fundamental to developing the whole child, promoting creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and social interactions. This is also where students get to apply their knowledge from math or english in very practical settings.

Education & Experiences

Bachelors of education in Science and Math from Umeå University in Sweden.

I have, among other things, worked as a Science teacher in Sweden, Mali and UAE, a Math teacher in USA and UAE and an Art teacher in Mali, UAE and now here.

Passions

I went for a Math and Science degree in University but have always done art and taken a variety of art classes wherever I have been able to. My heart lies with oil painting but I also dabble in stained glass windows and ceramics. I am constantly learning and trying new things and am currently taking violin lessons. Spending time with my family in the outdoors is also something I enjoy.
